Merriweather Theme Details!

Why hello there! Welcome to The Merriweather Theme, a child theme for self-hosted WordPress sites! This theme was designed to help you showcase your content in a stylish & sleek way…and also to help you CONVERT site visitors to customers, clients, or loyal followers!

MERRIWEATHER THEME FEATURES

  • Upload your logo! You can easily customize the site title and tagline in WordPress, or just upload your own, custom image-based logo.
  • Customize the colors! Use our default color scheme or use the built-in color customizer to select your own palette.
  • Mobile responsive: We’ve paid attention to the little details so your site will look good on your desktop and all your devices.
  • Extra widget areas: In addition to the sidebar and 3-column footer area, we’ve also built in a widget area at the top of the page, underneath each post, and at the very bottom of the page for an Instagram slider.
  • eCommerce ready: Want to start selling products through your website? No problem! Our theme is WooCommerce ready, and we even include a little WooCommerce quick start guide on our website to help get you going.

 

 

MERRIWEATHER PAGE TEMPLATES

  • Homepage: our homepage has widget areas galore, which you can use to showcase your content. Show off your photos with a slider, feature your most recent or favorite posts, or link to specific pages so your readers know where to go next. You can also add in email opt-in forms, and Instagram slider, testimonials, and more!
  • Landing page: use the landing page to promote a product or service. All the unnecessary content is taken off the page, so your content will really do the talking!
  • About page template: you’re pretty awesome, and we want you to strut your stuff! Our about page template takes your content from blah to beautiful with a columnized display and image slider.
  • Services page template: we want to make it a little easier for you to display your services, so we’ve included this template. Just add your information in and you’re ready to roll!
  • Portfolio: easily display your best work with a gorgeous portfolio! We even show you how to set up your internal galleries in a gorgeous masonry grid.
  • Category & archive page: special template that showcases the posts in your categories & archives in a special grid.

  • Pin it button: encourage your visitors to pin your content to Pinterest with a custom pin-it button on hover & instructions on how to set it up

  • Happy New Year, everyone! Was the end of 2018 as much of a whirlwind for everyone else as it was for us over here? Whew! This week, we're looking ahead to the future. What are you most proud of in 2019? Nope, that's not a typo! This question popped up in my inbox in a newsletter from executive coach Barbara Churchill, along with a reminder that visualizing what you want is a key part of reaching your goals. One thing I've learned to do is work backwards. When you know your end goal, you can figure out the proper steps that will get you there, rather than just blindly doing stuff. So, where do you want to be at the end of the year? What do you need to do to get there?
  • Some of y’all have gotten in touch with me recently because you’re seeing “not secure” warnings on your website. Right now, Google Chrome (and some other browsers) will trigger a “not secure” warning for all pages containing password and/or credit card input fields that are not using HTTPS (rather than HTTP). However, the ultimate plan is to mark ALL HTTP pages as “not secure”, and Google Chrome will begin putting this into place in July of this year. - You can see how this could be a problem: if your site displays a “not secure” warning, a website visitor may reasonably interpret that to mean you have a security issue with your website and leave, causing you to lose website traffic! - To remedy this: switch your website from HTTP to HTTPS. You can do this by obtaining an SSL certificate and setting it up on your site. This process is going to vary depending on what company your website is hosted with. Here’s what I suggest: - A) Check to see what plan you have with your web host. Some hosting plans have SSL certificates included, and you just need to click a few buttons to set it up! - B) If that doesn’t work out for you, contact your web host directly and ask them what the process is, and cost involved (if any), to set your account up with an SSL certificate. - In many cases, you’ll be able to set up and install a free certificate from Let’s Encrypt, but not all hosts allow this. Also, if you’ve been thinking of switching web hosts, now may be the time! There are lots of great hosting plans out there that come with a free SSL certificate included.   • Is your branding feeling stale? Try adding in a new color or shade! Besides the gold, the only other accent color I had associated with my brand was dark navy. I've always liked the shade, but sometimes I had problems working with it because it provides so much contrast and is not the most versatile. After 4+ years of having the color be a part of my branding, I wasn't ready to say goodbye...but I needed more! So I decided to incorporate the medium blue into my branding, and I've been loving it!
