For best results, when uploading an image-based logo, most of our WordPress themes recommend using an image of particular dimensions. This is an easy thing to do in Photoshop, but what if you don’t have that program? This tutorial teaches you how to resize an image to a specific dimension using a free online photo editor.
How To Resize An Image With Pixlr
Step 1: Open pixlr.com which, at the time of writing this article, is 100% free.
Step 2: Scroll down to wear is says “Pixlr Editor” and click the “launch” button
Step 3: Click “create a new image” and enter in the dimensions of the image you need to create. (If you’re resizing your logo for your theme, the recommended size can be found in the area where you upload your image in WordPress). I recommend checking the box for “transparent” too.
Step 4: You should now have a big editing screen to work with. Go to Layers >> Open Image as New Layer. Locate the image file you want to use and load it.
Step 5: If the image you uploaded is huge, it may be hard to see, but it should be there! Now, go to Edit >> Free Transform. Click the square in the corner of your image and pull and adjust it to fit the canvas. (Keep your finger held down on the SHIFT key on your keyboard to ensure it maintains it original shape.)
Step 6: (Optional) To center your layer, go to Edit >> Select All, then Edit >> Copy. Now, go to Edit >> Paste, which should paste the image as a new layer and center it at the same time. Now, go to the Layers area on the right hand side of the screen. Find and select the layer under the one you just pasted in and delete it by clicking the trash can icon.
Step 7: Now, just save the image by going to File >> Save. Choose PNG for format and ensure the quality bar is at 100%.
Note: if your image turns out to be blurry, make sure the image you pasted in as a new layer is larger than the dimensions you chose in step 3.
